Anchorage, Alaska – This afternoon at 4:00 p.m. AST, President Donald J. Trump appointed 10th Circuit Court Judge Neil Gorsuch to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia on the United States Supreme Court.
Alaska Republican Party Chair Tuckerman Babcock is traveling and unavailable for comment. Speaking on the party’s behalf, Vice Chair Rick Whitbeck issued the following statement in response to the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch:
“This afternoon, President Trump fulfilled one of his biggest campaign promises to the American people by selecting Judge Gorsuch, a mainstream conservative to serve on the United States Supreme Court. I am confident Judge Gorsuch will faithfully uphold the Constitution, protect our individual rights, and preserve the idea of limited government.
“I am glad to see that both of Alaska’s U.S. Senators stand firmly behind the President and Judge Gorsuch. This is exactly the type of unity that America – and Alaska – needs right now.”
“Alaskans voted overwhelmingly for President Trump, in large part because of the type of justice he promised to nominate for the Supreme Court,” Whitbeck continued. “Alaskans can be very proud to see that President Trump has kept that promise.”
